Overview
I have been in care work many years. I started working with my great grandmother when I was 17 after she had a stroke. She relied on careers to fulfil daily duties so that’s when I started after she passed away as I missed the care I was giving her, but soon enough my nan needed care after becoming poorly and needing dialysis. She also had a colostomy which I quickly learnt how to change on a regular basis, I enjoyed doing her care so much until she sadly passed away. From then I came to know that my son was severely autistic so became his career and learnt a lot along the way.
3 years ago I started working for a community care company an every minute of it. Whilst working I completed my care certificate qualification, peg feeding course, manual handling, hoist trained, medication course, first aid, and health and safety course. Whilst working with the company I worked with all different types of clients with all different needs. I worked closely with one client who was 30 and suffered a stroke when he was 1. This had affected his speech, walking, eating and toilet needs etc.. I worked with him 5 days a week from 8-4 and I assisted him to college, clubs, activities and volunteer work at a local charity shop, we grew a close bond. I am now a P.A to two clients on a daily basis. One client has MS and the other is paralysed from the waist down. |
